No seriously. Has this ever happened to any of you? Like, you’ve been woken up too fast so you’re on your feet but not really awake yet and it makes everything seem way crazy and you just want to crawl back into bed? Because this totally happened to us last week. I shit you not. Long story short, Sarah passed out in the car on the way to Target to go grocery shopping and we woke up and went inside and she freaked out in the cereal aisle. She’s fine now, no worries, and it is damn funny in retrospect and I thought it deserved archiving. For posterity.

In other news, this comic marks a pretty significant day for SDA. With this comic, this version of SDA has officially produced more material than our first attempt. So it’s like beating a personal record, in a way. Hopefully the same fate doesn’t befall this incarnation of the site; I really enjoy comicking and being able to read your comments really makes keeping up with the comic worth it. I am so so so so so so so so SO sorry this is so late; I realize in all likelihood this will be the only comic i get up this month and feel really awful about it. I’m taking calculus over the summer and I’m doing alright, but it is just eating up sooooo much of my time; time I’d usually devote to video games and SDA are now spent crunch numbers in ways I didn’t know they could be crunched. It’s kind of scary.

WE’RE GOING TO COMIC-CON!!! It’s finally here, and we’re gonna be in San Diego for the whole convention. If any of you are going, look us up! We’ll be wandering around the exhibit hall, searching for friends and heroes alike. Chances are good we’ll hang out around the Newgrounds booth, but we’re also gonna try and meet  Jeph Jacques of QC, Ethan Nicolle of Axe Cop, Zach Weiner and co. from SMBC, the Cyanide & Happiness gang, and anyone else we run across. How awesome is that gonna be?!

Sadly I didn’t receive any guest comic submissions for this week, so there will be no new comics next week. I know, I know, you guys were totally expecting an update every day this coming week, since that’s become the norm around here, but sadly, it will not happen. Pete tells me that NPI has some guest submissions, though, so be sure to check there over the course of the week ^_^.

Sarah’s birthday was the Sunday before last, so I figured we’d commemorate the occasion with a comic I wrote back in November ^_^. I’ve been want to get to this script for a while, but the opportunity just hasn’t presented itself until now. I think it came out well, too; looks pretty close to how I imagined it.

Looking forward to Comic-con in July; that is gonna be FUN. Problem is, I won’t be able to get an update in while I’m there! So here’s my question to you, dear readers: do any of guys draw comics? Would any of you be willing to do a guest comic for that week? I’d love to get a couple in, but if I get enough submissions I could potentially put up one a day. If anyone is interest, please, let me know! And the sooner I get your comic, the better! *Those chips are legit. They smell and taste EXACTLY like a McDonald’s cheeseburger. I’m worried they actually found a way to condense a whole cheeseburger into a chip; if that’s the case, I’m due for a heart attack any second now.

Welcome to Shot-Down Again in HIGH DEFINITION!!!

If you didn’t notice, the comic looks ever so slightly different today. Yes, its missing a proper background, but thats not the cool part. Whats cool is that THIS installment of SDA was drawn at 300 dpi and made use of the multifill coloring method used by NPI, QC, and lord knows how many other webcomics out there. Its so nice and clean now; I feel all warm and fuzzy ^_^

Not a whole lot to say for this one. Tried to keep it simple but still visually engaging; dunno if I achieved that, but at least it could stand to be a lot worse. I will say, I do love the script for this one, even if the coloring didn’t come out the way I’d hoped. The lineart is pretty decent too; I’m trying to get everyone’s hair to be less geometric and more…well, hair-like. Granted, Kat and David didn’t see much of a change, but Pete sure did, and I’m pretty happy with that. I gave myself and Sarah a makeover last comic, too, in case you didn’t catch it (though I don’t see how; you’re an observant bunch, after all), and that came out pretty well too.

I’ll see about squeezing one more comic in this month, if not two, but for now we’ll shoot for the one. Until next time!

In the spirit of ongoing Hitler jokes I felt this comic was appropriate. I’ve actually got ANOTHER one lined up, believe it or not; don’t know how soon I’ll use  it though. We’ll see.

The pic this comic was based off of came from this collection of protest signs regarding the new Arizona immigration law; they can be seen here at Buzzfeed.com. For those of you unfamiliar with the legislation, it essentially allows police to pull you over and card you under the suspicion that you might be an illegal immigrant. Which, if those signs are anything to go by, is just a teeny-weeny bit racist. Or a lot racist. However, signs #26 and #28 were just too good to pass up; it really is a lame argument, and you are pretty much guaranteed to experience a dumbpiphany if you get Godwin’d during an argument.

Hope you enjoyed this installment of SDA. I personally I’m pretty happy with how it came out. Its one of the few times I’ve been satisfied with my coloring, and I will say that the revamped line style worked pretty well. We’ll see what it does to Pete, David and Kat when we get there.

EDIT 5/11/2010, 1:05PM: So during my random websurfing today I stumbled across this little gem. Apparently people got an early jump on the whole Godwin thing. Could this be any more nonsensical?

Alternative titles include: “There Was Acid In Those Crayons,” “This Is What You Get When I Try to Draw Simple Backgrounds,” and my personal favorite, “Sarah and the Technicolor What-the-Fuck.”

I’ve got mixed feelings about this one. One the one hand, its perfectly representative of the dynamic Sarah and I have going for us. On the other, WTF is up with those backgrounds. And then on a third hand…well, those backgrounds were kinda fun. So I dunno. I think I’ve got an idea for quick comic i might try to get in my this Saturday, but we’ll see. Tests and papers abound this week.

Aww, aren’t they adorable???

Sorry for the lateness; I realize my schedule is basically defunct, but it feels like there was a sizeable gap between this and the last comic. For that, I apologize. I have determined to make a conscious effort to update more often.

Funnily enough, this resolve grew out of something that one would expect to be a deterent. Specifically, my fall semester schedule. Did you guys know that organic chemistry labs run upwards of 6 HOURS AT A TIME? 6 HOURS. My orgo lab next semester is Wednesdays from 2:30 to 8:30 PM. Its scary to think about, but then there are all my other classes. I think I will spend  20+ hours in class per week next semester,  even though it only amounts to 15 or 16 credits. And seeing this hell that I’ve created for myself written out on paper, it really sunk in how little free time I’ll have next semester.

So whats my plan? Update more, duh. Weird, I know, but hey, I’ve got the summer to get comfy with telling jokes in 3-4 panels and minimal drawing. Cutting production time will be crucial, but in doing so I’ll be able to update more frequently. So this is my pledge to you, my readers: by the end of the year I hope to have done at least 45 comics.  Tall order, yes, and chances are I’ll fall short. But that’s the goal to shoot for.

Over the short term, though, look for at least 2 more comics this month. With any luck I’d like to hit 20 comics by mid-May. Cross your fingers! Until next time.
