Time sure flies, doesn’t it? Well for me it does anyway.

Comic-Con certainly doesn’t seem like it was two months ago already, but I guess it has been. Followers of SDA and NPI probably think our comics both died after Comic-Con or something, which is not the case, I assure you. Plette’s been an incredibly busy guy with his schoolwork, he does still intend to update as often as he can, but right now school is the priority. He has almost no freetime during the week, and on his weekends away from art class I imagine the last thing he wants to do is more art. My excuse for not updating these past two months is a bit more flimsy.

Really there’s a couple reasons, the first is that I just haven’t had any solid ideas for NPI in a long time. Usually I have vague ideas, or something will hit me during the week, but that just hasn’t really happened since Comic-Con. The second is that I have other projects I want to commit time to now. Believe it or not, from concept to completion, even simple NPI comics usually take about 4 hours to make. Not a lot when you look at time tables of other comics, but right now that’s 4 hours I could be using on other endeavors that I’m frankly much more interested in for the time being.

One big thing is that I’m finally taking the time to establish a home for my music on the internet, and so far it’s going very well. I’m also trying to flesh out the story and art for a potential new flash series I may be doing (we’ll see), and pretty soon here I’m going to be applying for a bunch of animation internships across the country.

So yeah I’ve been working on things, just not this thing. I will try to stay more on top of NPI though now, I wont say when I’ll try to post my next update by, because I would hate to just keep setting deadlines and then not meet them, I’ll just be vague and tell you to keep an eye out. Shot-Down Again and No Pun Intended aren’t dead, we’re just doing other things right now.

It’s true, I’m heading off to San Diego Comic-Con for the next week (the 19th-26th), so there wont be any updates over that period. However I am bringing a sketchbook and a fuckton of pencils (10) with me so that I can sketch things and perhaps have a little something for you guys to look at upon my return! I also will definitely be updating my Twitter and brand new Google+ account over that time too, so if you’re interested in hearing of me and my friend’s exploits, follow me on one or both of those accounts.

Yeesh, I think not updating for 4 weeks has affected my ability to draw.

Well, after a month of being a no-show I return! I wish I had a better excuse than “I’ve been lazy, and when I haven’t been lazy I’ve been busy with other things,” but that’s the truth.

I came up with this silly little comic on my most recent vacation to visit family in Michigan, ’twas a fun time, not a lot to say about it really. However I am excited to say that I’ll be leaving for Comic-Con San Diego in almost exactly a week! I’m super excited to see my friend (and artist of SDA) Jacob Plette and his girlfriend Sarah in the flesh once again!

I’m going to shoot for getting one more comic up before I leave for Comic-Con, and this year I’d love to bring my sketchbook with me and perhaps upload some con-sketches upon my return, we’ll see what happens!

Oh, and we’re still trying to figure out when we’ll record the next podcast, more info soon hopefully!

Well, it had to come out eventually. For those of you who are avid podcast listeners you may recall that I mentioned My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic a few podcasts ago, when talking about this comic (link), well a little while after recording that podcast, I was bored one evening and decided to watch a couple more episodes of the show, partially to see if David’s argument held up about the animation getting worse over time (again, referenced in the podcast), and partially just out of my own curiosity to see if the show maintained its adorable innocence and fun characters as it went on, and here we are a couple months later and I have every episode in High Def on my iPod and have watched all of Season 1 twice.

After checking out communities and forum posts related to this show I’ve seen that my story is not all that dissimilar to anyone else who’s gotten sucked into it and the general consensus seems to be that if you watch up to Episode 5 you’re hooked. I could go on about why I like the show and blah blah blah, but I’m sure that at this point if you know about it you probably know why people like it, and if you don’t know about it then a quick google search will yeild a billion forum posts about why people like it.

Also I know I’ve been a lazy-ass when it comes to updating recently and I’m going to shoot for having another comic up this coming Monday. Let’s hope things go well.

Hey guys, apologies for the lack of update last week, believe it or not I really am trying to update NPI as much as I can, life just gets in the way of these things sometimes.

Hopefully you at least get a little chuckle out of this one, admittedly the idea seemed funnier in my sleep-deprived state last night, and upon finishing it this afternoon I really wasn’t happy with the result, but whatever. I am trying my best here.

Also if all goes according to plan a new podcast should be going up near the end of this week, so be on the lookout for that all you podcast listeners.

Based on a true story. No, seriously. As dumb as it sounds me and a few friends actually spent an hour or so just… throwing sticks in a river. I wanted to throw rocks but alas I couldn’t find any. A man can dream I suppose…

Being the Nintendo fanboy that I am I’ve been clamoring for a 3Ds since it was rumored… ohhh roughly a year ago actually! I remember when it was just vaguely hinted at in a press release from Nintendo, and it left the internet abuzz, now everyone and their grandma has one. Hopefully I should be picking one up soon though. If anyone reading this has one and wants to add me as a friend or whatever once I have one (I’ll update this news post when I do), shoot me a message either in the comments or on Twitter or something.

Oh, new podcast went up this past week, this is the one for February actually, heh, it’s only a little late.

I don’t think I’ve ever made it known anywhere, but last fall (2010), I absolutely fell in love with the show Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. It was a brand new series produced by famous anime studio Gainax. It was odd because, well to be honest I don’t really watch anime. Sure I grew up with Dragonball Z, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and that whole culture (I think some would argue that’s not even really anime), but I’ve never been into the really popular anime’s that circle around the internet and whatnot, but Panty & Stocking just really resonated with me, it was weird, perverted, and kind of gross at points, but I just enjoyed the ride from beginning to end.

I think this was mainly because of two things, first off, the art style. Boy did I adore the art style, it was created as an homage to the western animation art style (so a similar look to Dexter’s Laboratory, or The Powerpuff Girls), which made it just a nostalgia trip to watch. Seeing characters that are that stylized, and that well animated brought back a lot of memories of afternoons wasted watching television. Second, because the show took a lot of things that I actually do enjoy about anime when I watch it and threw them in the mix as well. Namely, awesome action/fight scenes, villains who are just as enjoyable as the main characters, and just bizarre bizarre ideas and concepts. I think it was just a really awesome mix of the best of both worlds for me, and I’m really glad it exists. It was by no means a perfect show, but it was a blast to watch.

What does this all have to do with the comic you may ask? Well interestingly enough, Panty & Stocking was a very popular show around the parts of the internet I hang out it, most of the forums I go to and a lot of the people I follow on twitter were very into it, and that was kind of cool to see, what interested me though was that just recently the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic came out, and, once again, has been incredibly popular around my section of the internet. Now, what’s odd about this is that both of the main characters from the show had the exact same color scheme and hair. Don’t believe me?

And I’m not the only one who’s made this observation! I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some other show that comes out this year that has a main character with that color scheme and hair style. I guess we’ll just wait and see.
